Doctor Who Did Not Screen Patient For Prostate Cancer Until The Patient Himself Requested It Sued For Malpractice

When it comes to prostate cancer, men of African-American descent are at higher risk than the total population.  A male patient of African-American descent was being treated by a doctor for prostate related issues, among others. Even in light of these statistics and the fact that the patient complained of prostate related issues, the physician did not order any diagnostic testing to investigate the possibility of prostate cancer and did not refer the patient to a urologist.  When, at age 52, the male patient read an ad in his local paper about the benefits of early cancer detection he requested that he be screened.  The results showed that he had advanced prostate cancer.  The law firm handling this case reported a $750,000 settlement.
