Giving Your Fish Live Fish Food

7:45 pm Home

Flakes and pellets are the preferred fish food by most aquarists, as they pack in the needed nutrients and also have minerals that keep fish healthy and thriving.  But if your fish could have a choice, they would prefer live fish food.  Among their favorites are fresh brine shrimp, live worms, maggots, vinegar eels, and even feeder fish.  You might want to treat them once in a while to live fish food, which can be an equivalent of our own gourmet meals.

When feeding your fish with live food, make sure that they are safe to be eaten by your fish.  The problem with live foods is that they can be infected with a disease and easily transmit it to your fish.  To avoid this, only buy your live fish food from trusted sources.  Many fish supplies stores raise their own live fish food to make sure that they’re safe and clean.  Just be warned that live fish food are more expensive and quite difficult to find.  A good alternative to this would be frozen food.
